On many occasions it deteriorates due to the elements, especially in areas close to the ocean, causing it to be weakened by rust and corrosion if not regularly maintained. The importance of keeping those support brackets in good condition is vitally important, it supports considerable weight and many expensive system components. If the supporting bracket is weakened sufficiently, starting the compressor or fan motor can impose extra force on the bracket or fastening bolts causing the bracket to fail. This can create a potentially dangerous situation if a high mounted unit is positioned above pedestrian traffic below.
