What is a Condensate
Pump Installation?

A condensate pump is used in some air conditioners to remove condensate water collected from the drain tray under a finned cooling coil. This type of pump is frequently fitted to ceiling mounted air conditioner units where the drain tray is lower than the outside drain. Installation of a new pump or replacement of an older pump is relatively simple, requiring connection to an electrical circuit to activate a float switch and the pump motor. The main function of the float switch is to ensure the pump only operates when the water level is between an upper and lower level, making sure the pump motor only operates for short periods rather than operating continuously.

Sometimes if the finned coil and drain tray are not inspected regularly, the drain tray will fill up with dust and dirt or other debris causing the pump to malfunction. Local Air Conditioning Repairs recommend regular service events to make sure the drain tray and outlet tube are always clean and clear. If dirt is allowed to build up, the condensate pump may ingest this foreign material causing damage and may stop working.

How can we fix your
Condensate pump?

When your condensate pump fails to operate, usually the first warning sign is condensate overflowing from the drain tray, staining the ceiling or dripping onto expensive furnishings in the living space. Local Air Conditioning Repairs recommend regular service calls to check the drain tray and condensate pump along with other critical parts of your system including the following.

How to Prevent Condensate
Pump Replacement

The ongoing health of the condensate pump in your air conditioner unit is best maintained by regular service events to make sure the condensate pump remains clean and the drain tray, collecting condensate from the finned coil, remains clear and free from dust and dirt and other debris. A scheduled regular service, provided by Local Air Conditioning Repairs technicians can keep the condensate collection system clean and operating correctly, we can even schedule inspections for you at regular intervals and provide a reminder when a service is becoming due. This could save replacement of your condensate pump at a future date or better, save consequential damage to your ceiling or furnishings.

A regular inspection doesn’t take long, is inexpensive but can save you lots of money by highlighting issues before they can degenerate into component failures and cost much more to fix than a simple maintenance inspection visit. Call us now to arrange an inspection before the hot summer months advance on us.
